PICTURES FROM TODAY'S HIKE IN THE JEWEL BASIN
Ted and I decided to see if we couldn't squeeze in another hike this season -- indeed we could so we climbed Mount Aeneas, which is a cool mountain if you ask me.
Here, below, you can see the last approach to the top. I wore my new Kahtuula (sp?) micro spikes and Ted wore crampons for a short bit of the hike. Traction wasn't critical but it made it easier.

Below is me striking my male underwear model pose. You'll have to take my word for it.
Some of us bring water or Gatorade on a hike -- others, like Ted, bring Scotch. Seems like a nice way to celebrate reaching the peak.
Winter will be here soon I reckon.

Sweet Pics.! Your making me miss Mt. even more!! It's pitch black here in Tucson and still 92 degrees!
If you go on a hike with my family, some kind of adult beverage for the lunchtime break is pretty much required. It's usually beer or a bottle of wine, but my dad takes scotch on backpacking trips (better for traveling, you know...). So this all appears perfectly normal to me.

Did you go down the other side? It looks snowier then when we were up there.
No Joanna, we couldn't see the trail and figured that wasn't a good sign. It was less scary than when we went even though there was more snow -- there were many more footprints to follow!
Back about 10 years ago we hiked Washington Mtn,. in NH in the midst of the winter, with 50 below with windchill (wind was 50-70mph). Since it was our first serious thing out of the ordinary, we were very smart to bring a bunch of water bottles and power bars...all of which had frozen solid. the only thing that didn't was a bottle of konjak (sp?). And we drank it for our calories and hydration:) We survived a rather treterous way down:)
