FERNIE, BC -- DEMOLITION DERBY

This weekend Keith invited me (and Ted, but Ted didn't want to go to a demolition derby -- can you believe that?!?!) to meet up with him, Dave and Brenda in Fernie, BC, where one of their longtime friends live. This weekend was the demolition derby, which is an event not to be missed. Of course, if you're ignorant like me you might not realize that Fernie is an adorable ski town filled with beautiful young people rather than mullets.

Regardless of whether the demo derby was totally redneck, like something I might have been able to see in Kansas if I ever went to one, it was REALLY REALLY fun. Who knew watching cars smash into each other could be so much fun.

There was a lot of fire, smoke, screaming and cheering. You could also buy beer -- the money went to charity so it was really best to drink beer. Also, I had so much fun with Keith's friends -- they are really wonderful people. And good cooks -- we ate VERY well. In fact, the weekend was quickly nicknamed "porkapalooza."

Coming home I was shocked to see a mile long line of RVs going back to Canada at the border crossing. Do not drive to Canada on Labor Day around noon. Don't do it.

Yes, it is possible to have a good time with beer and most machinery.
Excellent piece of American urban slang I had to look it up.
