THE DEVIL'S BACKBONE AND SPRING FEVER

Photo lifted from blog of Jeffery Rogers from Oakland, CA, whose photos I've been drooling over all week. . . thanks JR from O and sorry I shamelessly stole this pic :-)
While the south has been pummeled (sp?) with unusual quantities of snow, we here in the great white north have received little snow and have instead enjoyed unseasonably warm temperatures. This is frustrating for someone with her first ski pass and love of snow. The snow is almost melted in town. I guess I'm still a runner deep down in my heart because I'm developing spring-fever and a longing for dry runnable trails. I've been sitting at work fantasizing about the Alpine 7 and Glacier NP. So, what's a girl to do but register for a race so that the longing can be channeled into some planning and preparation? I registered for the Devil's Backbone 50 near Bozeman. My goal is to finally, for the first time in awhile, be semi-serious about training properly. I know this isn't really the type of race where finish time will make logical sense or be comparable to anything else, but I want to be in shape for this and not dragging along at the back-of-the-pack like I normally do. I'm actually excited about the process of training again. I lost that but I think it's back. At least for now ;)
P.S. A sweet blog you should check out is Steve and Kathleen's. I've been "tagged" by them in some honorable bloggy way that I don't understand but am delighted by.

Hey, Danni!
Good to hear you're up for DB50! I haven't signed up yet, but it's fer sher on my dance card. Incredibly scenic and challenging course, without aid stations to distract you from putting one foot in front of the other.
What about Old Gabe? Great 50k confidence builder!
Apparently DB50 is closed already Martin! Can you believe it? I got in by the skin of my teeth.
Old Gabe sounds great. Might have to put it on my dance card.
LOL!!! We didn't know what our "tag award" was either - oops - someone had to explain it to us. I guess we are not too literate when it comes to some types of bloggie activity. I have heard that the Devil's Backbone is a super pretty and very challenging course. It will be fun watching you train!

I spaced it out about the Drymax socks- have you worn their trail sock(black and orange)? The winter ones are just a bit more dense than the trail sock, and longer. They also have a Trail Lite sock which is a bit thinner than the regular trail sock but it is short. They are all quite cozy!!!

The Devil's Backbone course is crazy fun. I've not done the race, but run much of the route of the course. Holy moly lookout good time!
I contacted Tom. He'll let me in on a provisional basis, i.e., (a) I don't get mauled by a grizzly, (b) I don't get struck by lightning and (c) I don't put the refrigerator in my drop bag, like last year.
It's going to be a challenging event...
So I'm putting in the Old Gabe entry, too. Hope to see you there!
Oh yay Martin that's great news!!!
