FIRST VISIT OF 2010 TO GLACIER NATIONAL PARK

On Saturday a friend and I did a 14 mile trail run in the park. The trails were relatively flat and very soft -- a perfect running surface. The trail meanders through lush green forest until Avalanche Campground, where we headed to Avalanche Lake. This is, evidently, a Glacier Lily. I thought it was a pretty yellow flower, whatever it was.
Avalanche Lake is a great early-season destination. It is always a great view though I haven't actually seen any avalanches there yet.
Today I flaked out on a planned trail run with the running group. I feel really guilty about it since I wanted to see my friends but I really felt like I needed to sleep. I slept until 11 -- I honestly can't remember the last time I slept that ridiculously late. I also feel guilty because I feel like I lost a substantial part of my weekend by sleeping so late. Ted and I did hike 6 miles in Herron Park with the dogs, which was a really nice way to spend the afternoon. It was sunny, warm and snowing, all at the same time. It was like June snow in April! :-)

Beautiful place, relatively flat trail - this is heaven. I have never been to Glacier NP but it is high on my list of places to visit.
How I wish, for once I could sleep till 11. I am such a morning person.

Yeah bear spray. Front and center!

You know we planned to do backpacking in Galcier, but found that it'd take too much time to get there/back from nearest airport and not enough vacation. But it is on my backet list!

SaWeet!! That first photo is a jaw-dropper.

Olga there's an airport just 20 minutes from Glacier National Park! "FCA" is the airport code. Someday you should come :-) It's expensive to fly here though.

How do I love Glacier NP, let me count the ways... :) Such an amazing place, and you are so lucky to be so close! Ah, I am envious, even with the bear spray!

I'm so, so, so jealous. I've got to plan a trip up there soon. You get to organize the run for when I get there!!! :)

Danni,

Avalanche is so awesome. I would be jealous if I didn't live in Helena. :)

Don't let the GGRRC die a slow death! You all can keep it going. Good luck on the Herron Hustle. I hope we get some LONG miles together this summer. Peace out.
