Eulogy for Zeke (by Ted)

Zeke died yesterday afternoon of an unknown illness. We got him within a year after we married and he accompanied us through several moves from our first apartment together in Chicago all the way to our home in Montana. He made us a family. It may sound strange, but it's fitting somehow that his end has some mystery about it since he was always a little mysterious - we never knew his age and knew very little about his background. He was often a little aloof, inscrutable and vaguely wild which made his obvious affection and gentleness towards us all the more meaningful.

Zeke was a leap of faith. We didn't intend to actually take him home when we set out to see this dog we'd heard needed a home. He rewarded that leap with deep memories of love, joy and amusement over the years that we were his pack. I only wish we had had more time together.

He was a beautiful, gentle and loving being who deserved all the good things that came to him and none of the bad.

We miss you sorely, Zekey.

We are so sorry to hear about Zeke's passing. Like you said, our dear pets are family and their loss leaves a quiet void. Just think though - you gave him such a wonderful life by adopting him - a life he may not have had if you both wouldn't have come along. And the wonderful memories you have because of him. He and you had a richness added to life that you wouldn't have had without each other. Our hearts feel your sadness.

I just saw this. Beautiful. Zeke was truly special. Some dogs we love completely but they remain dogs (Trixi), others like Zeke (and Lola)we love completely and they seem to be so much more. Kind of dog/human/wisemen... I love the photo of you two. I'm sorry.

Sorry about Zeke. Losing a family member is always hard. But it seems like you had a wonderful time together.

Zeke... please go do good in doggie heaven, at least take lots of dog naps in the warm-but-not-hot sun.

Danni and Ted... This makes me so sad for the two of you. I hope the end was as smooth/painless as something like this could be, for both Zeke and the two of you. Thinking of you both.
