HURL Fat Ass 50k

On Saturday Allison, Callie and I did the Helena Ultrarunners League (HURL) Fat Ass 50k and finished in a lesisurely 6:53.  A "Fat Ass" run is informal with no entry fee.  Martin Miller hosts this event and makes it as great as a paid event.  There were a couple well-stocked aid stations and Martin hosts a potluck at his house afterwards.  It's really fun.

I ran this several years ago with Rebecca, for her first 50k.  Callie and Allison were planning to each do half of the Fat Ass (Lame Ass) but were convinced after a couple IPAs at the Blackfoot Brewery to try the whole thing.  Allison thus completed her first 50k and Callie made it despite coming back from injury.
The weather was nice with some sun, blue sky and decent temperatures.  There is a long climb (5 miles or so) that was really snowy/sandy which made the backs of our legs scream, but it wasn't too terribly icy.

This was essentially my first and last official training run for Susitna.  I have two ski races coming up and a quick weekend trip to Chicago for Cheryl's baby shower.  I think the training will be adequate.

Good job! And at least you have snow to train on. We've been very dry here. They are promising some rains (Bay Area) and snow (mountains) - I am dancing my snow dance.

You northern girls are a hearty bunch! I marvel at the way you get out and continue to train hard despite the dark and cold of winter - especially up by you!!! We are big time wimps down here in CO!!! :-) Keep up the great work - you are an inspiration!
