What we didn't anticipate, though Jill and I recently brushed with this situation a couple weeks ago, was the very aggressive marmots. Yes, they look like muppets and are the size of a cat, but those little muppet eyes hypnotically say "I want your snacks." We were sitting on the pass enjoying some cheese and trail mix when suddenly we were surrounded by these dangerous creatures.
We narrowly escaped with our lives. People get so worked up about grizzly bears and mountain lions, but these guys. . . almost as dangerous as the "agressive white tail deer" that a woman had to shoot at the day it became legal to be armed in the Park. You never know what sort of dangers you will encounter here in the northern Rockies.

Quite an understatement there - that is awesome scenery right in your backyard!!! The marmot looks mischievous for sure - almost like he has had trail mix before...
Marmots can get one into real trouble. There are some trailheads in Inyo Natl Forest far from civilization where people tell stories about their cars getting disabled by marmots who seem to like drinking antifreeze so they chew through the hoses. Not fun.
Yeah unfortunately I'm pretty sure these guys are very familiar with trail mix, power bars and all other kinds of human food. It's frustrating to think people might feed them. Or, they have learned that they can steal food if they're quick enough and the hiker is unsuspecting enough.
Eeks that's not good. Antifreeze can't be good for marmots.
Hmmm, those marmots sound like they are related to the squirrels in the Grand canyon ... a species not to be denied snacks!
i think i'm related to that species... i do not want to be denied snacks either.
You can almost see the blood dripping from his fangs. He was DEFINITELY going for your throat.
okay at first I could not tell if you were joking or serious about the marmots being dangerous. but I would be freaking out if suddenly surrounded by those greedy muppets!
